bike riding the Thames Path

I’m very grateful to this week’s Indian summer because it’s put lots of people in good moods. I’m also grateful because it meant that when I picked up my new bike I could go straight out for a spin, yay.
Birdie Bikes supplied me with my new wheels – nice team they’ve got in there, really friendly, helpful & enthusiastic. They’re in Hampton so the route was a fairly easy choice once I’d decided to can the rest of my plans for the day… I won’t pretend to …

Sri Lanka

Two weeks felt like two months here, partly because I took in so much of the country with all the bus trips, long days of sunrise & sunsets, and high quantity of curry’n’rice. Sri Lanka was a bright country full of interesting things to see, do & taste, and the people – beyond the first haggle – were warm & generous. I snacked on peanuts with tuk tuk drivers, scrambled empty pop bottles with school children, shared bus seats with monks, high fived guys in the surf and enjoyed freebies with festival-goers. There were smiles everywhere and I took them home with me.

South Thailand Islands

Dad joined me for ten wicked days in Thailand. We stuck to the South, exploring the islands & bays, in fact Dad didn’t spend one night on the mainland!

We travelled light and along the way took creeky mopeds around town (all three of us on that, really…?), ultra-slick speedboats to the Full Moon party and hitch-hiked to the airport.

Although it was out-of-season we met a lot of brilliant people: locals who wanted to share their regional dishes; little’uns who wanted to share our wallets; backpackers who wanted to drink; honeymooners who wanted to chat; walkers who, er didn’t want to walk; hosts and guides who wanted to help, laugh & hang.

Fraser Island & Noosa

An awesome trip to Queensland with Jess seeing the incredible Fraser Island and magical Noosa.

We had premium service on the flight. We had a leaky tent in the middle. We had a night of cottage coziness & did a puzzle! And I’m pretty sure we smashed up some black sambuca on the last night…

A flawless trip; some of my very best times and memories in Australia.

Melbourne-Yarra Valley-Great Ocean Road-Barossa Valley-Adelaide

Six days coasting through the highlights of Victoria and South Australia with my Mum.

Special attention paid to making the most of the good flavours, the comfy accommodation, the gorgeous scenery and an awesome amount of time together.

We discovered that Mum knows heaps about cricket and is ace at crosswords. That neither of us know how to make sourdough but both find it delicious. That I can drive for nineteen straight hours with no problem but that the speed limit changes across the borders :) And that Sangiovese is one of our favourite reds.

the Basin, Sydney

Couple of nights camping just across from Palm Beach.

Gorgeous weather, some good wildlife and lovely scenery.

Lots of lazing around, a bush run and a dash’n’dodge when it started to rain.

harbour swim

Went for my first ocean swim in ages this evening. It wasn’t an amazing evening for it – bit overcast, fair amount of junk in the water – but I had a nice time anyway, good to get wet and stretch my limbs.
There was heaps of marine life. I saw a few sting rays, big fish, see-through fish, long pointy fish and tiny tiny fish. There were also a lot of jellyfish. I haven’t seen little ones like these before (they weren’t blue bottles). There …

Myall Lakes

Two days in Myall Lakes that felt like two weeks.

Soaking up the very restorative waves, breeze, stars, clouds.

No real flavour mentions – I cooked some stuff.

Mostly enjoying the beautiful environment and the ease of doing little-to-nothing. Good for the soul.

Man, I’ve turned into a right hippy this year haven’t I…

morning paddle Batemans Bay

An early morning paddle out from Mossy Point near Batemans Bay. Swell & sunshine, dolphins & jellyfish, coffee & cake. Perfection.

Batemans Bay

Long weekend down in Batemans Bay south of Sydney, a gorgeous bit of the country with some beautiful and secluded beaches.

Scruffing it up with Laz, hostel, bbqs.

Piling in to a whole heap of running, surfing, paddling.

Getting centred with a splash of reading, yoga and red wine.

Happy :)
