Baan San Fan 2011

Games, eats and giggles from the days at Baan San Fan.

I visited back in December, and as part of my travels in Asia ‘popped in’ to say hi. I’m so glad I did, and I wish I had scheduled longer. But no worries, I’ll be back…

This is a diary post, so it’s a stream of thoughts, reactions and ideas. I’ll write some proper reflections and insights shortly.

Social Innovation StartUp Camp Day Two

As I was on my way to day two of the Social Innovation Bootcamp I was feeling inspired by yesterday’s work and spoke to a friend, Charlie, to get some advice on next steps for Work in Thailand. Charlie is part of the committee for the Great Adventure Challenge. It’s an incredibly successful project, a great cause, and knowing Charlie a little bit a very inspiring story about how to make projects like this work. So the day started well… . And when I arrived there was …

Social Innovation StartUp Camp

Today I went to the first Social Innovation StartUp Camp. It was hosted by Social Innovation Sydney – a community led by Kate Carruthers and Michelle Williams to share and further ideas that have a positive influence on society.
There were around thirty people. I don’t know where everyone came from, hopefully we’ll get a delegate list tomorrow, but there seemed to be a lot of marketing experience in the room. I arrived late – thanks to a big night out in Manly :) – and …

Opinion: “Way To Go”, Voyeur

The Virgin Blue in flight magazine, Voyeur, is currently running an article on the ‘new’ holidays that people are pursuing, “Way to Go”. The premise of the article is that original travel destinations and experiences are running dry and travelers now want ‘bragging rights from our two weeks off.’ The ITB World Travel Trends Report 2010/2011 includes insights such as: travelers cite sustainability as a driver for tourism, and there is a growing demand for well being & relaxation.

Manly Co-Op

Manly Co-Op, full name, Manly Food Co-Operative, is a not for profit, community owned shop. Its ethos is healthy and environmentally friendly shopping and I reckon it’s very successful at what it does.

Volunteering at Baan San Fan, Bang Wan, Thailand

Two weeks staying at Baan San Fan in Bang Wan, Thailand.

I helped with children and chickens, christmas and coconuts, the pond and the party.

We went to the town & markets, the beach & the river, school & the local shacks/ shops.

I ate plenty of soups, stir fries, curries, salads, bananas, bananas, bananas….

We played games & music, mucked around, learnt stuff and made friends :)
