A last minute roadtrip down to the glorious Cornish coast.
Miles & miles of open, pretty ‘a’ roads, great cliff views and heaps of interesting clouds…
The perfect weekend set up: discount card for the bar, student & local crowd, free wifi, greasy fish’n'chips down the road.
Messy surf, breezy walks, a cracking Chilean pinot, and sunburn.
Yeeeoow :)

Seven days on the glorious island of Bali. An immediately calming but strengthening environment.
This time I saw more of the beaches and ventured inland to Ubud – a cruise-y, spiritual town.
Fun times were had on surf board, bike, yoga mat and dance floor. And there was plenty of fuel from the nation’s superb Bintang and anything-with-peanut-sauce dishes :)
I hope I make it back again some day…

Popped over to Freshie for a surf this evening. It was gorgeous there – it was gorgeous along all of the north shor / northern beaches – and I piled into the ocean for my first non-wetsuit surf this season. Let’s say up front, it was still fresh, and evening may not have been the best time to trial this, but it was fine.
There were some smashing waves. Not heaps, just a few smashing ones.
I caught most of the ones I wanted to until my feet went so …

Dragged the board out for a spin after surf patrol and had a bunch of fun. Caught a few good ones, got smashed, think I managed to stay standing for longer which is good. Rez was out again and it took him, ooo, three minutes before “Lucy James paddle“, things never change eh…
And then I went for a paddle this morning, before work.

Following last season’s finale in Bali it was time to get back ‘on the bike’ and see what I’d lost over the winter.
Obviously I was going all mental in my head about surfing again. I practised on the beach and OMG (cheerleader voice) I was rubbish: you could see on the sand that I was dragging and not landing my feet, putting my hands in the wrong places, blah blah.
In to the surf… sweet relief (and honestly I said this out loud to myself), I still loved it. …

I’ve heard that there’s some creepy sounding fake wave making pool place here in Singapore where you can surf. I’m told you work your way from the body boarding pool right up to the tube… How can this be? I’m trying to get the afternoon off to find out. I ‘did’ the snowboard thing in Dubai. I feel this could be a similar erm, experience. More later…

Went for a wave Wed morning and honestly I think I saw a shark. Definitely a fish shape below my board. So I caught the next wave in (let it get someone else!) Went back out but saw the same / a similar shape and so got properly freaked caught the next wave and called it a day. Yes it could be a fish. Yes it could be seaweed. Yes it could also be a shark. Nuff said.
(Don’t worry I went out Wed evening – get back on the bike …
