Launch: Startup Weekend, Creatives Edition

Startup Weekend does what it says on the tin – they build & launch start up companies in the space of a weekend, Friday night to Sunday arvo. It’s an impressive model, active globally, with many success stories under its belt.

And now summer London Startup Weekend has launched with the theme of Creatives. So start ups that are directly linked to the advertising industry, start ups that provide a service to the advertising industry, start ups that are created by advertising execs. It’s a broad scope, and it’s a big opportunity.

12-14 July, at Google Campus in groovy Shoreditch. You can expect about 100 people on site, a neat combination of business heads, developers and designers – the lovely trio it takes to get a start up up and away. The schedule, linked here, takes in Friday night pitches (people come with ideas), voting and forming into groups, Saturday head down hard work, Sunday frantic completion, presentation and judging. There’s food, beverages and wifi included in the ticket. And here’s the thing that really amazes me, the tickets are just 110 quid! You quite literally cannot feed yourself in London for a whole weekend on 100 pounds so it’s a bargain even without the wifi, cleverness, creativity, new launch kudos and general fun times.
