Six Parks Challenge

3 September 2012 2,050 views No Comment

Just like the Five Parks Challenge but, wait for it… with another Park. Took almost the same route as last time and then added Wandsworth Park on to the end.

blades of glory

It was a much warmer evening than I was expecting and it was glorious in all the parks: heaps of people, some Paralympic goodness going on and gorgeous soft clouds in places. I had Tinie Tempah slamming in my little ears and couldn’t stop smiling, which must have been disconcerting for everyone but especially the tourists. In St James’s Park the number of pigeons was almost out of control. At the Battersea Bridge junction the number of bikes was almost out of control. And in Battersea Park the number of 20-something runners was definitely out of control. Fortunately I didn’t see anyone rollerblading, so my desire for a pair of rollerblades hasn’t been fueled any further (credit card relaxes).

cool runnings

Once again, the most challenging part was going up to Clapham Common because I have to skim so close to home and then keep going past, AND up a hill. My running is truly rubbish these days, I was overtaken by so many people. All these sprightly buggers with rucksacks and energy. Sigh.

Road Trip

I didn’t take in a great deal of Wandsworth Common, more just ticked it off but that turned out to be a good decision because at 90 minutes my ITB on my right side started to really hurt so I was a bit stop-start-n-stumble. Then at 100ish mins my left side started to hurt too so it was a good job I was in my hood and I quietly winced home.

the long way around

The plan next is not to add another Park but to do a longer version of the six parks – actually take in more of the Commons at the end rather than brush the edges.
Oh, by the way, after TT, it was Kanye West and then Florence again, please give me music ideas…
