thursday

my bag weighs less than 17kgs. that includes four decent sized books and a jar of Vegemite, which means it’s highly likely i’ve left something/ somethings at home, wonder what • train & bus to LGW • Terminal 4 has had a facelift hasn’t it.? i was here in 2009 but it was Christmas Day & i didn’t pay attention • Pret a Manger • take off, zzz, always fall asleep • get a heap of work done on the plane and am already glad i caved and brought my MacBook • Triple J hot 100 in my ears • four hours into the flight i work out how to rewind/ ff the films to start at the right time. clever girl • The Descendants, in case you haven’t heard, is good and set in Hawaii which is nice • Moneyball is about baseball, which is dull, so it’s testament to Brad Pitt’s er, acting, that i watch the whole thing. bout half way through he puts on reading glasses and a Puma t’shirt, it’s ace. it’s like they knew when the girls would tune out • The Zoo, The Park, i dunno, something with animals, either way i’ve maxed out on movies about 40-something single dads • reading • eating • is funny reading about yoga moves when you’re squished into a zed shape • landing, zzz, always fall asleep then too • taxi-ing, still asleep • people getting stuff from lockers, still asleep • neighbour wakes me up, it hurts, i’m in that vegetable, woozy, heavy, jet lag state • mong around KL airport

friday

got more room on this flight, boo ya • curry for breakfast, and coffee, someone please give me coffee • am reading this wicked new book about an orphanage in Nepal. two main thoughts 1) i’m really, properly glad i’m going to Baan San Fan soon 2) i think i want to marry this author • too tired to read now, just staring around • think i may be getting old, my hands & feet are really swollen from flying. that only happens to old people right? • Denpasar is hot, and busy and familiar, hello Bali • see my first Balinese sculpture/ ornament, which epitomise the island for me, and feel tension (didn’t know i had any..) evaporate from my body • queue for cash, queue for visa, queue for immigration, queue for bag check, queue for customs, queue for taxi • strangely, still have that relaxed feeling • squeezing around Kuta’s silly crowded streets • there’s a hotel called Aston Kuta, is that funny.? • first glimpse of the ocean is heaven. i think i stuck my tongue out • hotel in Legian • i am a muppet. for someone who travels so much i am a muppet. i’ve booked this hotel for 6th June. what pizzetting use is that.? • drama over, they’ve got a spare room. but they know i’m a muppet • change • beach • ocean dip • beach bed • two straight hours of solid, hot, dribbling sleep • back • shower • aladdin pants, yesss, haven’t worn these since Sri Lanka • walk north towards Canggu, i remember this as a +-two hour walk • Bali is a mess, i mean a real frkn mess. i reckon the building is getting worse, the rubbish on the beach is definitely worse. i wouldn’t want my kids playing on this, actually i don’t know why i’m putting my feet on this • the decrease in cluttering tourists as I keep walking north is like walking out of a dust storm. i leave the clumps behind, then the wispy bits and then the last couple of specs. byee • no really, the mess here is horrible. there’s a lot of charm missing for me right now. maybe it’s the tide, the season, or maybe it’s the passage of time but there is noticeable difference and I’m sad about it • sun set is still nice though; shiny stratus clouds • Canggu/ Echo Beach is like I remember • Aussie accents everywhere, i forgot about that! • table at the scruffiest place, it’s the third time in nine months i’ve had their bbq-ed fish in banana leaves with red rice, garlic water spinach and coconut green beans • spiiiiicy • WiFi makes me happy. is that a contradiction to my rant about rubbish and development?? i’m not sure • don’t want to pay silly taxi prices so walk through the rice paddies and wheat fields with stars blinking down on me • Deus Ex Machina • am now reading a book about design & manufacturing, this bit is about London in the industrial revolution which is good cause i’ve been reading a lot of Dickens lately too • fall asleep in taxi • peppermint tea at home which i don’t finish because my whole body is like potatoes zzz

over exposed on the beach :P
