Paul Theroux, “Dark Star Safari”

11 August 2011 2,206 views No Comment

This was my first Theroux and the start of a major love affair.

Paul is a keen and experienced traveller with a strong preference for staying away from major cities and doing things the local way. His observations as he travels overland, North to South, across the continent of Africa, are magic. You can smell the countries.
I never wanted this book to end and I’m excited about chowing my way through the rest of Theroux’s catalogue.

In a fit of generosity, or maybe ridiculousness, I book swapped this in Arugam Bay. Man, I really hope that guy – Dan I think, Queenslander, living in Dubai – I really hope he enjoyed it.
