HIM T-15: no really, it’s gonna be ok

I never really got going this week.
Monday: bike riding in gym
Tuesday: day off (??!)
Wednesday: pathetic run
Thursday: massage day, although I did manage a pretty good ocean swim.
Friday: massage recuperation (capable of nothing)

I continue to dream about food around the field....

I was starting to worry that I had peaked too soon in terms of psychological preparation and maybe had tired myself out.
But today I came back in force. After a massive eleven hour sleep, today I did the biggest training session so far and you know what, it was ok.

Great news, I found out the distance of the ocean swim I’ve been practising, and it’s not too far off the distance I need to do, so that is a huge relief.

Anyway, today’s session: 80% distance swim, 65% distance bike ride, 75% distance run. Total time just under 5 hours. And in each element my pace was ahead of the average time that I’ve been clocking to date. So, not only was it my longest training session, it was also my fastest. This is good news.

Other good news: I have found the perfect kit combination and now know exactly what I’ll be wearing on the day, I practised some of the adjustments from last week and they were good; I can now ‘water the flowers’ on demand (gross); and – this was the best one for me – my recovery was unbelievably quick. I estimate two minutes to recover. And I mean, completely fine.

The plan from here is to taper nicely into the event. Tomorrow I intend to bike and run but gentle, not forced speeds. This week I will focus on short distances, weight loss / management (given I’m not doing the distance) and yoga. Next weekend is City2Surf.

I was feeling quite unstable about things but now, I know it will be ok.
