HIM T-1: here we go…

14 August 2010 2,654 views 2 Comments

It was another beautiful day here in Yeppoon, clear blue skies, warm, a little wind. And things seemed to go quite smoothly I think. (please note, I am terrified but have decided there is jack all I can do about things now…)

Lola was delivered by the very prompt, very helpful Velo Trans boys. I actually skipped with her box because I was so happy to get her. And as I managed to assemble her correctly (again, thank you Brad) I was cheering out loud. Quite a jubilant morning all in!

Then I nipped over to the Resort for registration, practice etc. Registration was straight forward (love that) and the exhibition was pretty good although I didn’t look too much because the site of loads of professional kit that I don’t possess wasn’t helping at all. I hopped onto Lola and spun round the bike leg, it’s ok, all flat, totally flat. Which is good for consistency but as the Velo Trans boys said – it means you don’t get a break at all. Half of the track is on really coarse road so that’s annoying – all jiggly and makes you tense up.

I still don’t really understand how everything fits together but am confident it will be fine tomorrow!

Then I went for another swim, this time without my wettie, it really is much warmer here. But I’m gonna wear the wettie tomorrow I’ve decided: it is fractionally warmer but mostly I just feel a bit better in it, more protected or something, I am so worried about this whole group swimming thing…

The briefing was allllright, although some new news: NO iPODS. What…?!?!?!? I made a playlist especially… Now I’m gonna hurt everyone else by singing to myself. Can you imagine..? Running 21 k with NO music. How dull.

Overall though the thing that has struck me most is the really friendly spirit here. Everyone I’ve spoken to has been warm, encouraging, helpful. There’s lots of banter and even though all the super fit, toned, sleek people are wandering around looking intimidatingly fit, toned and sleek, it is very relaxed. So far I have actually been enjoying myself (eh?) and now I’m having moments of looking forward to tomorrow.

Gotta sleep again. x almostironLuce

p.s. tonight I had to practice putting a swimming cap on for the first time. Not cool.
