HIM T-21: it’s gonna be ok

It’s been a massive week. Actually today on its own was massive nevermind what came before.

Practice tri

have i had enough of eating these..?!!

Tuesday’s was meant to be 1/4 distance but I probably did 1/3 swim, 1/3 bike, 1/2 run, and it felt ok. The tris are really helping me with transition technique, trialling kit, and of course I get to do more ocean swimming which still feels like the weakest link.
Today’s tri was probably 3/4 the swim distance, 1/2ish the bike, and 3/4 the run. And it felt really good. Especially the swim, which was a good improvement. I definitely had more in me – I was sprinting the run at the end! – and with proper hydration and pre-event carbs I think I’d feel even better. The only thing is I have to get the swim measured so I know what I’m achieving. Side notes: recovery was, frankly, excellent. And, this is embarassing but… I’m getting the hang of, er, relieving myself while still on the go.. enough said…

In addition to the ocean swims I got two pool sessions in. I didn’t calculate distance on the first, just went for a long time and concentrated on using my arms for majority power and just flicking my legs for stability, conserving energy, muscles etc.
The second swim I was really happy because it’s the best time I’ve done 2k in. I still focused on the non-leg thing, and also on extending my stroke, and ‘finishing’ my stroke as much as possible.

Bike riding

All good. Just got to sit there really. Main problem is saddle discomfort!

I ran 12-15k on Monday and around 17k on Thursday. Both felt pretty good. Have switched to wearing The Sauce now and they’re better than the Aasics. Just need to get them broken in enough. Will continue to wear the Aasics for shorter runs. I hope the run is gonna be ok. It’s the leg I’ve felt most comfortable about but I’ve actually only done 21k once since completing the marathon

This is what I did this week:
Monday: 12-15k run
Tuesday: practice tri (approx 3 hours)
Wednesday: swim, 50 mins
Thursday: 17k run
Friday: lunchtime swim (2k, 42 mins), deep tissue massage in the evening – destroyed me
Saturday: nothing, but got a lot of housework and life admin done! was aching ALL over!
Sunday: extended practice tri (4.5 hours)

So, it’s been a full on week but I feel I’m getting somewhere (three weeks to go, you’d like to think so…) I also started to get bike transport sorted, chipping away at logistics… Am feeling ok about this now. Glad that the training seems to be paying off and feeling ok about the whole thing.
Side note – this is costing me a fortune in food. I am eating non stop.
